2015 NFL Draft Rumors: Garrett Grayson Impresses In Attempt To Become Third QB Taken In Draft

| by Daniel Yancelson

The top two quarterbacks in the 2015 NFL Draft are expected to be Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota, but who comes after them? Colorado State’s Garrett Grayson feels confident that he can be that third quarterback taken but doesn’t want to settle with that.

After missing the combine with a hamstring injury, Grayson impressed representatives from 11 teams watching him perform during pro day. He completed 70 of 74 passes, throwing on the move, with three and five step drops and showed his mobility.

"I proved what I can do today," Grayson said. "I think I'm up there with the best, I think obviously everyone knows Winston, Mariota are kind of the 1-2. But as quarterbacks, or any position, you should always be pushing, always fighting for the No. 1 spot at your position, no matter who's out there.

"Me, Bryce Petty and Brett Hundley were all considered to be fighting for that third spot," he added. "I can guarantee you can ask those guys too, they're not fighting for the [No. 3], they're fighting for the No. 1. It's up to us to make that happen. ... I feel very happy and I've watched all those guys throw and compete -- there's not a doubt in my mind that I can compete with them."

Grayson’s size (6-foot-2, 213 lbs) and arm strength should help his case. He also had a terrific 2014 season. He threw for 4,006 yards, 32 touchdowns and only seven interceptions.

During his pro day Monday, Grayson ran a 40-yard dash in the mid 4.5’s and said he is happy with the results since it’s his first time sprinting since his injury Feb. 10.

"What you guys just saw was my first sprint in over a month," Grayson said. "That gives me confidence going forward that I can move without something happening."

Although he impressed some teams and feels confident, experts don’t expect Grayson to go in the first round.
