2012 NFL Mock Draft: Atlanta Falcons (V5.0)

| by

It’s a busy week for the state of Georgia. The Masters is in full effect and I cannot wait to see how everything shapes up. I will be heading down to Augusta for the weekend, but before I ascend into Amen Corner, I wanted to leave you all with my second edition of my Atlanta Falcons Mock Draft. Last week some of you were very outspoken about a couple of my selections (Vontaze Burfict to be specific). I like that so keep them coming, but keep in mind these are hypothetical scenarios. So this week I wanted to play out a scenario of what would happen if Atlanta took a lineman in the second round.

This is an interesting scenario because I really don’t see this happening as Coach Smith is insistent upon their developed talent. Honestly, I am tired of seeing Sam Baker’s numerous attempts of getting Matt Ryan blindsided, but this offseason the front office has made it clear that Sam Baker will be returning. Nevertheless, let’s play out the scenario. As always you can post below or send me your feedback via Twitter @ColossalChicken. I hope everyone has a great weekend, I am off to see my man Tiger Woods dominate Augusta.

Second Round- James Brown, OG, Troy: Brown is a great value pick in the second round. Atlanta needs to boost their interior line. I see guard here mainly because of the Sam Baker chronicles…I just cannot fathom Atlanta breaking in a rookie LT.

Third Round- Ben Jones, C, Georgia: Ben Jones is vastly popular in this state due to his leadership qualities between the hedges, but his value is much higher. He is a bruiser at center or guard, and if Atlanta wants to commit to protecting Matt Ryan they can do so with their first two picks in the 2012 draft. Obviously, we have resigned Todd McClure, but it is time to invest in the future. I just haven’t seen enough from Joe Hawley.

Fifth Round- Ladarius Green, TE, Louisiana Lafayette: Finally, Atlanta has a chance to pick up a receiving threat deep into the draft. Green would see playing time this year and can be groomed into starter by his second season…that is if he falls down to the 5th round.

Sixth Round- Charles Brown, DB, North Carolina: Well, no surprise here… Atlanta did great by tagging Grimes, but with a shaky secondary depth and competition is the key.

Seventh Round- Janzen Jackson, FS, Mcneese state- Atlanta needs depth at safety…earlier this week James Sanders signed with the Cardinals. Sanders was a great role player last year and when injuries occurred in the secondary he stepped up and showed veteran leadership…Atlanta needs to bring talent to compete with DeCoud.

Seventh Round- Jerry Franklin, LB, Arkansas: With the final pick Atlanta could solidify some competition with Dent by drafting Franklin. Atlanta lost their leader on defense in Lofton…I think Spoon will fill that role, but he needs talent around him.
