For a while there it looked as though LSU might actually do it. With the prayers of Oregon, Notre Dame and Kansas State all on their side, the Tigers appeared poised to pull off what would have been the most consequential upset of the year in college football.

But then the thing that makes this year’s Alabama team so much more dangerous than last year’s Alabama team went to work.

With the game on the line, A.J. McCarron marched his Crimson Tide squad into the end zone, and in doing so, essentially locked up one of the two available National Title game berths.
