The Gamecocks picked up a late night commitment Tuesday evening when Ali Groves ended his recruitment by committing to the University of South Carolina.
Groves is from the always strong Stephenson High School, which was very good to the Gamecocks in the 2012 class. Groves had offers from schools like Vanderbilt, Pitt, Ole Miss, Syracuse and Illinois before choosing to be a Gamecock.
South Carolina envisions the 5'11" 177-pound player to be a cornerback at the next level. He has the ability to play safety as well but South Carolina needs cornerbacks and Groves is the man for the job. He has great speed as evidenced by his highlight video, but also looks like he's a big hitter.
USC's business school seemed to be a big attraction for Groves as was his relationship with recruiter Lorenzo Ward. He's got a chance for early playing time so add all that up and Groves went ahead and pulled the trigger.
Groves is a three-star recruit on 247sports.com and is the Gamecocks 14th commitment in the recruiting class of 2013.
