Boise State redshirt freshman Jay Ajay is either the most clear-cut example of economic pain and hardship in today’s America or just ridiculously dumb.
According to the Statesman, Ajayi pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft last week after he was found to have attempted to steal several pairs of sweatpants. Yes, sweatpants. Police officials said that the incident took place on Oct. 9 at a friendly neighborhood Walmart (small businesses take another hit!) in Overland Road, ID.
Even though Ajayi was sentenced to five days in jail as punishment for the act, the sentence came “with options.” What does that mean? Essentially, it means the five-day sentence can be waived if Ajayi agrees to pick up trash or do some sort of work-release thing. And, on top of that tap on the knuckles, he’ll also have to pay a $389.50 fine and live with the knowledge that he had 85 days of jail time suspended.
Ajayi did not make the trip to Las Vegas for Boise State's Thursday’s MAACO Bowl outing against Arizona State, presumably because nobody wanted to let his sticky fingers near the outlets.
