Wisconsin Badgers star running back, Montee Ball, was beaten up by five men early Wednesday morning. The attack, which is currently being described by authorities as an “unprovoked assault”, occurred somewhere near campus at around 2:15 a.m.
According to witnesses who were nearby at the time, Ball's attackers knocked him down and began to kick him repeatedly. Eventually, presumably satisfied with the level of damage inflicted, they fled the scene. Ball was taken to a hospital and promptly released early Wednesday.
His phone was reportedly stolen in the assault.
"My concern right now is for Montee's health and well-being," Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema said in a prepared statement. "Montee has been released from the hospital and is under the care and supervision of our sports medicine staff. We will continue to evaluate him as we approach the start of fall camp this weekend. I do expect Montee to make a full recovery."

Ball rushed for nearly 2,000 yards in 2011, and has been pegged by just about everybody as Wisconsin’s most potent offensive weapon heading into this coming season.

It’s unknown if this incident will in any way hamper his preparation for next year but, seeing as he was released from the hospital as quickly as he was, it’s probably a safe guess that it won’t.
