Penn State's Silas Redd, Gerald Hodges Named to Maxwell Award, Bednarik Award Watch Lists

| by

Penn State running back Silas Redd has been named to the Maxwell Award watch list for the 2012 college football season.

Penn State linebacker Gerald Hodges was named to the Bednarik Award watch list as well. Both are presented by the Maxwell Football Club annually to college football's top player (Maxwell award) and defensive player (Bednarik Award). Penn State also has a rich history with both awards.

Penn State players have won more Maxwell Awards (seven) and Bednarik Awards (four) than any other school. The last player to win the Maxwell Award form Penn State was running back Larry Johnson in 2002.

Johnson is the only non-quarterback to win the top honor form the Maxwell Football Club since Ron Dayne won the award in 1999. Other Penn State players to win the Maxwell Award include Richie Lucas (1959), Glenn Ressler (1964), Mike Reid (1969), John Cappelletti (1973), Chuck Fusina (1978) and Kerry Collins (1994).
