2012 College Football Rankings: Week 4 AP and USA Today Polls

| by Alex Groberman

The main takeaways from this past weekend’s college football games can be summed up in one sentence: Alabama is better than people thought it would be and USC is worse.

That’s it.

Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide continued their dominating run on Saturday when they destroyed Arkansas 52-0. USC, after a less-than-stellar showing last week against inferior competition, fell to Stanford 21-14 (like, in retrospect, everyone probably should have known they would).

A few other quick notes and observations: Oregon looks strong, but there is a reasonable debate to be had about whether victories over Arkansas State, Fresno State and Tennessee Tech should earn you a top three slot. Florida State is going to get tested this week – if the Seminoles earn a win, they should leapfrop the Ducks. Notre Dame is exponentially better this season, obviously, but a win versus Michigan State isn’t as impressive in reality as it looks on paper. Florida should be a top 10 team. UCLA’s schedule for the next month is embarrassingly easy – a win versus Arizona on Nov. 3 could mean that they’ll head into Nov. 17’s match-up against USC undefeated.
