Heading into this year Arizona couldn’t even crack the preseason top 10. Two and a half months later, the Wildcats sit comfortably atop college basketball with an undefeated record and as the No. 3 ranked team in the nation.
On Tuesday night, Arizona nearly lost both of those distinctions while squaring off against San Diego State in the Diamond Head Classic. Up by one and with the Aztecs on the verge of scoring a game-winning layup, Nick Johnson came through with a clutch defensive play that locked up the game for his squad in front of a kind of enthused Hawaiian audience.
