South Carolina center Carlton Geathers suffered a right knee cap fracture, that will require surgery, and cause him to miss at least six months.
The university's head basketball coach, Frank Martin, announced the news on Monday. Geathers suffered the injury while playing in a pro-am in Columbia last Thursday. The 6'10", 250-pound center from Georgetown, South Carolina is the cousin of former Gamecock defensive end Clifton Geathers.
He finished last season averaging 1.0 points per game, .6 blocks and 1.5 rebounds in a little over seven minutes per game during his redshirt freshman campaign.
Geathers was considered a "project" when it comes to the game of basketball but his size certainly was something you can't teach. He's been said to be improving his game and could have played a larger role in the upcoming season. This injury will likely set him back for the first half of the season.
