Louisville guard Kevin Ware suffered a gruesome leg injury during the first half of his team’s Sunday afternoon regional final showdown against Duke.
Attempting to block Tyler Thornton’s three-pointer, Ware left his feet and landed awkwardly on his right foot.
The game was paused for several moments as the medical stuff tended to him. Members of both teams were visibly shaken by what they had just witnessed.
Ware’s injury immediately evoked memories of both Shaun Livingston’s knee-tearing fall, and Joe Theismann’s compound fracture.
While there was some chatter on Twitter about Louisville-Duke getting delayed, the game eventually resumed.
