Back when he entered the league in 2008, many thought that the Minnesota Timberwolves made a mistake drafting Kevin Love as high as they did. He’s not particularly athletic-looking, he doesn’t put up all that many highlights and NBA history is littered with a lot of players who fall into those two categories that couldn’t get their skill sets to translate at the next level.
Of course, four years later, he’s one of The Association’s premiere talents – so that just shows how much everyone knew back then.
Still, Love always was and still is one of the most self-aware stars around, and he knows that a huge reason for why people underestimated coming in is because he’s a big, unathletic-looking white guy.
During a recent interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Love referenced that when asked about his prospects of making the U.S. Olympic team.

“Well it’s interesting. For me, I don’t know if I have to because they always need at least one token white guy,” he quipped (via Larry Brown Sports). “I think that I have a pretty good shot of making it there.
“It’s like the white guy in the gang — he’s the one you really gotta watch out for.”
Given the lack of quality size that the U.S. will likely have this year, Love could be white, black, green or orange and he’d still have a 99.9 percent chance of getting significant PT.
