NBA Rumors: Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard to Miss Lakers’ Next Preseason Game?

| by Alex Groberman

Sunday night was pretty special for the Los Angeles Lakers and their fans. After all of the hype and all of the buildup, finally, the world got to see what this team looked like with Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol and Metta World Peace all on the court together at the same time.

Hang on to that mental image, folks – you may not see it again for a while.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Lakers are currently dealing with a multitude of minor injuries that may keep the team’s star players out of Wednesday’s showdown versus the Los Angeles Clippers. Bryant sat out Monday’s practice with a strained and bruised right foot. Howard is still trying to get his back right. Peace is nursing a recently dislocated finger on his shooting hand. And Nash, the key to this squad’s offense running smoothly, is dealing with a sore ankle – although it wasn’t severe enough to keep him out of practice.

All in all, it appears as though none of these injuries are anything to fret about. That said, the fact that the season hasn’t even started yet and this team is already dealing with hurt players does speak to the Lakers’ major weakness heading into 2012-13. Outside of Howard, everyone in the starting lineup is over 30. They’re more prone to getting nicked up, and their recovery times take longer. This could end up being what costs L.A. a title if the Gods don’t smile down on them over the course of the year.

The final word on which starters will play and which will sit should come down on Wednesday.
