Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak fired Mike Brown on Wednesday after the Los Angeles Lakers got off to a 1-4 start this season. The first question everyone asked when news of Brown’s termination hit the wire was: who will his replacement be? We don’t know the answer to that yet. Apparently L.A. brass made this decision without thinking that part through. The second question everyone asked was: did Kobe Bryant have anything to do with this? After all, there was that death stare.
Well, not too long ago, Kobe took to his take Facebook page to make it abundantly clear that there were no bad feelings between him and his now former coach. Check it out:
Tough day. I've seen coaches as well as friends come and go. No matter how many years I've been playing, it's still hard to deal with. I had a good relationship with Mike and I will continue to have one. I wish him and his family nothing but the best. I spoke with him today and thanked him for all of his hard work and sacrifice.
As a team, we must focus our energy on tonight's game. We must block out the weight of today's news and simply do our jobs to the best of our ability.
I'm not sure what direction we are heading in next. All I can do is focus on the here and now.
So there you have it – he had nothing to do with the firing. Probably.
