NBA Rumors: Clippers Expect to be Without Grant Hill for a While?

| by Alex Groberman

Whereas the Lakers boast the best starting five of any basketball team currently playing in Los Angeles, the Clippers’ point of pride is their deep, deep bench. Mind you, this squad had a pretty strong group of reserves to begin with, and then they went out and added the likes of Grant Hill, Lamar Odom, Jamal Crawford, Matt Barnes and Willie Green on top of that.

Unfortunately, one of the major pieces that the Clippers added this summer will probably end up missing significant time. According to the OC Register, Hill, who the team was counting on for points off the bench and a bit of leadership in the locker room, will sit out for at least a few early regular season games due to a bone bruise. When pressed on how much time his 40-year-old forward would miss, exactly, head coach Vinny Del Negro indicated that it would be "at least a couple of weeks."

Odom has yet to see preseason action, too.

Still, the Clippers seem to have enough depth to make up for those two absences. And for Del Negro, it’s all about having a big picture perspective on things.

"Does it set us back a little bit? Yeah, because they're not out there," Del Negro said. "But I also have to look at the big picture and get those guys as healthy as possible as quick as possible, and this is the action we're taking with it."

The Clippers’ first regular season game will be on Oct. 31 against the Memphis Grizzlies.
