How many teams really need a 38-year-old big man going into his 17th NBA season?
As it turns out, more than you would think.
Marcus Camby, coming off a 2011-12 campaign which saw him split his time between the Portland Trail Blazers and Houston Rockets, is apparently something of a hot commodity among this year’s free agent class.
According to Chris Haynes of CSNNW, Rich Kaplan (Camby’s agent) got calls from at least six teams once the clock struck twelve and we officially entered July a couple of days ago.
Which squads are inquiring about Camby’s services?
That’s not entirely clear; however, he has apparently narrowed the list of who he actually wants to join down to a mere six teams. Via Haynes’ report:
The unrestricted free-agent center, Marcus Camby, has narrowed his choices to the New York Knicks, Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks and the Houston Rockets, a league source told CSNNW.com.
Camby has averaged nearly a double-double over the course of his lengthy pro career and, while he’s obviously getting up there in years, could be a very impactful piece for teams like the Celtics, Heat or Spurs.
His ties to the Knicks also make that something of an intriguing option.
