NBA Rumors: Celtics Trading Kevin Garnett to Clippers for Eric Bledsoe, DeAndre Jordan?

| by Alex Groberman

While Josh Smith’s name has been the one most frequently associated with NBA rumors over the past few days, it’s actually Kevin Garnett who was the focal point of the most interesting trade proposal from the past week.

During All-Star weekend, news leaked out that the Los Angeles Clippers and Boston Celtics were discussing a deal that would net L.A. Garnett and send DeAndre Jordan plus Eric Bledsoe to Boston. It was a transaction that, on its face, sort of made sense for both squads. The only major evident stumbling block anyone could see was the fact that Garnett has a no-trade clause, and that to date, he has refused to waive it for any prospective swap.

On Monday night, Marc Stein of ESPN broke down why he belived that this deal wouldn’t actually come together before Thursday’s deadline:

1. After spending a solid 15 minutes in the same room with Garnett in Houston as part of ESPN Radio's All-Star Weekend team, I became convinced that KG isn't waiving that no-trade clause. For anyone or any team. My impression is that it's going to take more lobbying than anyone out there can muster.

2. Broussard reported late Monday night on "SportsCenter" that Billups has already warned the Clippers that Garnett's position appears to be firm … and that Garnett spelled out the exact same thing to Chris Paul last summer when Paul informed KG that the Clippers wanted to pursue him via trade.

For what it’s worth, the Clippers continue to insist that they are not interested in trading Jordan or Bledsoe. That’s nonsense, of course, but that’s the company line for now.

The reality is that as L.A. has become increasingly confident that they will retain Chris Paul this summer, their boldness to move Bledsoe has also intensified. As far as Jordan, they like the youngster, but they aren’t as attached to him as the deal they matched last summer would have you believe.

If something pops up in the next few days, it wouldn’t at all be shocking to see both Bledsoe and Jordan moved for a reliable veteran presence.
