Thanks to his abbreviated college stint with Duke, nobody really knew what to expect out of Kyrie Irving this year. Everyone sort of realized that he was byproduct of a LeBron James-less Cleveland Cavaliers squad and that eventually the hope was that he would be able to play an All-Starish role, but folks were skeptical of him nevertheless.

Adding yet another accomplishment to a rookie season full of them, the Cavs’ No. 1 pick led his squad to an impressive (and mildly unexpected) win versus the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night. Irving scored 10 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter, but no bucket was more consequential than his game-winning lay-up with about four seconds remaining that put his team up 100-99.
