How Stereotypical Was Angry NASCAR Fans Booing First Lady Michelle Obama?

| by Alex Groberman

First, we’ll steer clear any societal or cultural generalizations as they relate to politics and NASCAR and simple lay out the facts.

On Sunday, Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden served as grand marshals at the NASCAR season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Their appearances were part of a charitable campaign to support military personnel and their families. As the pair was introduced to an otherwise seemingly happy crowd, a rain of boos could be heard coming from the stands.

Does this reaction feed into a stereotype that typically goes hand in hand with NASCAR fans and their political outlooks?

Decide for yourselves.

But don’t jump to any conclusions.

Maybe they weren’t booing the First Lady. Perhaps they’re just not fans of military veterans.
