Danica Patrick will not compete in this May’s Indianapolis 500. Almost everyone suspected that the most polarizing female racer ever would likely sit this one out, but official confirmation finally came down the wire on Thursday.
For all of Patrick’s notable racing failures, she has actually performed relatively well in the Indy 500. Prior to last year, she finished in the top 10 each time she took part in the festivities.
"I can confirm to you today I will not be doing the Indy 500,'' she said during the first of a three-day Sprint Cup test at Daytona International Speedway (via ESPN). "The team and I decided to focus on Cup. It's going to be plenty of work as it is.
"It's going to be important for me running for the championship full time for the first time to really keep myself focused on the Cup car. But if I do do the Indy 500 moving forward it will be with [sponsor] GoDaddy.''

Last season Patrick finished 10th in the Nationwide Series. Because the Coca-Cola 600 and the Indy 500 are run on the same day, she had to make a final decision sooner rather than later.
Interestingly enough, Patrick also said that she hadn’t finalized her upcoming Nationwide Series schedule yet. Apparently there are still ongoing talks between her and Turner Motorsports as far as what she will and won’t participate in.
Patrick made no mention of Paul Hospenthal at any point during her time with the media.
