Pittsburgh Pirates Brawl With Milwaukee Brewers (Video)
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez hit a triple off Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Gerrit Cole today, which resulted in both teams breaking into a wild brawl.
The play began in the third inning with Gomez hitting Cole's pitch to center field where Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen tried to make the catch. The ball sailed over him, hit the wall and bounced back on the field, noted SBNation.com.
By the time McCutchen got the ball to Pirates third baseman Josh Harrison, Gomez had safely made it to third.
Harrison tossed the ball back to Cole who made a remark to Gomez, sending him into a rage (video below).
Gomez was restrained by some players, while Cole was pushed toward the pitcher's mound. But Pirates outfielder Travis Snider then said something to Gomez, which caused the melee to expand.
Snide and Gomez were later ejected. The Brewers eventually won 3-2.
According to BleacherReport.com, Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review tweeted:
Carlos Gomez: "I’m not apologizing for nothing I did today... If they don't like it, it's fine. I'm with it. It's not a big deal."
Gerrit Cole: "I said 'If you are going to hit a home run you can watch it. If you are going to hit a fly ball to CF don’t watch it.'"
Cole: "I didn’t curse at him. I didn’t try to provoke a fight. I was frustrated. I let my emotions get the better of me."
