Phillies Cole Hamels Has Shoulder Inflammation

| by Off The Record

Philadelphia Phillies ace Cole Hamels has been dominant all season with the exception of a few starts. He’s 13-7 with a 2.62 ERA and has been mowing people down all year.

But last Friday against the Washington Nationals, his velocity was down and he got roughed up a bit. He said afterwards he wasn’t having any arm pain, but did feel like he had a bit of dead arm. Might not have been exactly the case, as Matt Gelb of the Inquirer says that an MRI revealed some inflammation.

“Hamels MRI showed inflammation in the shoulder. He will likely be skipped once in the rotation,” Gelb tweets.

It isn’t the end of the world and it looks like they aren’t going to shelve him on the DL (for now). But the skipped start could be good for him to get a bit of rest after throwing a ton of innings this season.
