Apparently when a player goes from not sniffing .300 for six seasons to suddenly surpassing it twice in back-to-back years, that throws up some red flags.

On Wednesday, San Francisco Giants outfielder Melky Cabrera was suspended 50 games for violating the MLB’s drug policy. What did the 2012 All-Star Game MVP test positive for? According to ESPN, he was found to have excess testosterone in his system.

Anyway, Cabrera is seemingly content with the MLB’s decision. He released this statement shortly after the hammer came down:

"My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used. ... I am deeply sorry for my mistake.”

The Giants are currently tied for the NL West lead with the Los Angeles Dodgers. That probably won’t be the case for much longer, though.
