Professional golfer Sergio Garcia, a man mostly known for wanting to be Tiger Woods’ rival but not being talented enough to qualify, found a brand new way to stick his foot in his mouth this week.
While speaking to reporters on Tuesday night in Europe, Garcia joked about the friction that everyone knows exists between him and the world’s No. 1 golfer. When asked if he would invite Woods to dinner during the U.S. Open in June, the 33-year-old star offered a racial reference that he was quickly forced to apologize for.
"We'll have him round every night,'' Garcia said, per ESPN."We will serve fried chicken.''
Later in the evening, presumably realizing that saying what he said wasn’t the smartest thing to do, Garcia issued an apology through the Euro Tour.
"I apologize for any offense that may have been caused by my comment on stage during the European Tour Players' Awards dinner,'' Garcia said. “I answered a question that was clearly made towards me as a joke with a silly remark, but in no way was the comment meant in a racist manner.''
