2012 Fantasy Football Week 6 Potential Pickups: Tim Tebow, Alex Green, Peyton Hillis and More

| by

Week five was full of disappointment in fantasy football. The six early games got off to a slow start and were incredibly boring, while a lot of the top fantasy options associated with those games failed to live up to expectations. Cam Newton and Steve Smith killed you this week, as did Chris Johnson, Jimmy Graham and several others.

Injuries and poor play may have you bogged down, but you still need to keep your eye on the prize and your finger on the pulse of your league’s waiver wire. Here are my favorite five guys owned in less than 50 percent of leagues hat need to be picked up this week:

Tim Tebow | QB | New York Jets (Available in 90% of leagues)

Tebow Time could be coming as soon as Monday night, in at least some shape or form. Mark Sanchez has been inept, and I feel the passing of the torch coming on. Tebow may not be a great pocket passer, but he racks up the fantasy points and is a weekly starter - especially if you’ve been struggling at quarterback and need an answer. Carson Palmer and Sam Bradford have also been solid and are out there in a large amount of leagues.

Alex Green | RB | Green Bay Packers (93%)

Even if Cedric Benson doesn’t miss any time, Green’s value is going to be steadily on the rise. He’s the most explosive and versatile back the Packers have, which means at the very least he should start getting more third down work as a runner and receiver. His ceiling is curbed by Benson for now, but he has nice potential and I’d much rather own him that James Starks.

Peyton Hillis | RB | Kansas City Chiefs (59%)

It seems we’ve forgotten about Peyton Hillis. An ankle injury has kept him out of the past two weeks and Jamaal Charles is balling, but the guy still has value. He’s a stash add for now, but he’s still a TD threat and if Charles ever gets hurt, he’ll have crazy value as the lead back in Brian Daboll’s system. The Chiefs don’t really want to put 30+ touches per game on Charles’ knee anyways, and Hillis is a more reliable option than Shaun Draughn or Cyrus Gray. Unless his injury is worse than we think, he should be owned in way more leagues.

Robert Meachem | WR | San Diego Chargers (57%)

Call it revenge against his former team (the Saints) all you want, but Meachem and Philip Rivers finally got some chemistry cooking in week five, as the receiver hauled in two touchdowns. It could be a fluke, but I doubt it. You have to take a flier on him starting to be a regular contributor in San Diego. Because if you’re wrong and he blows up, it’s a huge miss.

Devery Henderson | WR | New Orleans Saints (94%)

Henderson needs to be owned in more leagues - period. He’s in an explosive Saints offense that loves to pass and he clearly still has the Jets. More importantly, Lance Moore is banged up, and so is tight end Jimmy Graham. When those guys are nicked up, Henderson is going to carry great value.
