2011 Fantasy Football: NFL Week 9 Waiver Wire Pickups

| by

Waiver Wire is our weekly look at players available in many leagues that could have an immediate impact on your fantasy roster, or simply just players to keep on your radar. We’ll be here all season to let you know which players to watch, who to ignore, and most importantly, who to pick up. If you have any waiver wire questions, feel free to post them in our Fantasy Football Forum.

Add in all Leagues

Michael Bush OAK | RB

There is still a decent chance that McFadden plays week 9, but if he doesn’t then Bush could be a great pickup and play. The Raiders play the Broncos next week and they should be able to put up a lot of points. Even if McFadden plays there is a good chance he will get hurt again at some point this season, so Bush needs to be owned as a handcuff. (about 55% owned)

Jackie Battle KC | RB

Even though Battle is still in a timeshare with Jones and McCluster, he is still going to get a majority of the work. This makes him a starting RB on a decent offense, so he needs to be owned in more than half the leagues. He doesn’t have huge blowup potential, but he is a guy that could put together some solid games in the second half of the season. (about 50% owned)

Jonathan Baldwin KC | WR

One of our favorite deep sleepers coming into the year, Baldwin is finally starting to make some noise. This rookie receiver is a big physical guy with a huge upside. The Chiefs offense has been doing a lot better lately, and Baldwin should see a lot of single coverage with Bowe getting most of the attention. (about 5% owned)

Roy Helu WAS | RB

Torian didn’t look that good week 8 and it might be time for the Redskins to give Helu more carries. The entire season I have been saying that Helu will be the guy to own when it counts the most, and I am still thinking that is the case. Even if Torain is able to stay healthy I think Helu will be given a shot at the starting gig in Washington. Now that most of the bye weeks are over it’s time to pick up Helu and stash him on your bench. (about 35% owned)

Antonio Brown PIT | WR

Brown continues to be a big part of the Steelers offense. After 2 straight quite games in weeks 5 and 6, he has had 16 catches for 169 yards and a score in the last 2 weeks. The Steelers have 2 tough match ups and then a bye coming up, but he has a nice schedule for the playoffs. (about 60% owned)

Add in Deeper Leagues

Damian Williams TEN | WR

Even though Nate Washington caught all the touchdowns, Williams was the one that lead the Titans in receiving. He had 4 catches for 60 yards, and seems to be gaining the trust of Hasselbeck. I am still a big fan of the situation Williams is in, and I think he could have decent value in the second half of the season. (about 5% owned)

Reggie Bush MIA | RB

Bush looked great week 8 racking up 120 total yards and 4 catches. He still has value even with everyone healthy out in Miami, and he can still be a decent start in a PPR league if you are in a bind. I fully expect Thomas to take over the majority of the carries when he comes back, but Bush should still see around a dozen touches a game. (about 60% owned)

Atlanta ATL | DEF

Atlanta’s defense hasn’t been that great this year, but I think they are a decent play week 9. They are coming off of a bye, and they will have the winless Colts waiting for them. They should be able to get some pressure on Painter and force him to make some mistakes. (about 20% owned)

Curtis Painter IND | QB

The reason I included Painter on this list is because of his 79 rushing yards he racked up week 8. Painter has shown some signs of being able to put up some rushing yards, but nothing like what he did against the Titans. I don’t think Painter has a huge upside, but if he can start adding 30+ rushing yards a game then he is going to get some fantasy attention. (about 15% owned)

Javon Ringer TEN | RB

I am not ready to say that Ringer is a must add in all leagues, but Chris Johnson owners do need to start thinking about adding this guy. The Titans played with a lead the entire game week 8, so I wouldn’t read too much into how many touches Ringer got. Ringer did outplay Johnson, but I don’t think we will have a RB swap unless Johnson gets hurts. (about 10% owned)

Ben Obomanu SEA | WR

Obomanu took full advantage of the start he got over the injured Mike Williams. He had 4 catches for 107 yards, and he has now had solid games in 3 of his last 4 outings. I don’t have much faith in the big Mike Williams moving forward, so look for Obomanu to continue to be a decent part of that Seahawks offense. (about 5% owned)

Keep an Eye on

Eddie Royal DEN | WR

The Broncos played from behind almost the entire game, so I am not ready to fully believe what Royal did week 8. I do however think that this is a situation that people in PPR leagues need to keep an eye on. With Tebow at quarterback all of the Denver receivers are going to have a tough time being consistent, but Royal could rack up some catches. (about 5% owned)
