Start ‘em Sit ‘em is our weekly look at favorable and unfavorable match-ups and how they might affect lineup decisions for your fantasy football team. Other than a few elite players, no one should be classified as a must start every week, and analyzing match-ups can go a long way to giving your team a weekly edge. If you have any start’em sit’em questions feel free to post them in our Fantasy Football Forum.
Week 6 Byes
Cardinals, Broncos, Chiefs, Chargers, Seahawks, Titans
Shonn Green NYJ vs. MIA | Start’em
Green finally got it going against the Patriots last week and the most telling number of the game was three. That was the number of touches LT got last week. This suggests that the Jets do not have faith in LT anymore and when Ryan Rex said he was going back to the ground and pound he meant they are going to give it to Green as he hits the holes hard. I expect more of the same this week against the Fins and with Henne done for the year I expect the Jets to get up early and run the ball the majority of the second half with Green.
Benjarvus Green Ellis NE vs. DAL | Risky Start
Anyone that is coming off a two touch over 120 yard game cannot be a sit’em but I am nervous about the Law Firm this week. The Cowboys are allowing a league’s best 61 rushing yards per game and they are coming off a bye so they are well rested and ready to go. The way you attack the Cowboys is through the air and last I checked the Pats are pretty good at that. I expect this game to be closer than Vegas might think and therefore I don’t see the Pats having the luxury of relying on Green Ellis to run out the clock at the end of the game giving him the junk yards he is accustom to.

Ryan Torain WAS vs. PHI | Start’em
I used my number one waiver on Torain in two leagues a week ago. I know he is Mr. Glass and hurt all the time but I love his match-ups over the next three weeks starting with this one. Torain plays a Philly team that is 30th against the run and just got ran over all by Fred Jackson. Torain is a similar runner and I feel the clear cut best back for Washington. Coming off the bye he should be 100% healthy and ready to run all over the Eagles. Not only a start for me but he is in the running for my stud of the week. (if Dustin and Mike allow him as a sleeper pick he is my lock sleeper pick of the season)
Miles Austin DAL @ NE | Start’em
I am guessing the highest over/under of the week will be the Pats vs the Cowboys as both teams cannot stop the pass. I expect a high scoring affair and Miles Austin will be a big part of the Cowboys game plan. Do not sit him thinking he needs a week to get into stride, you kept him after all those trade offers were sent your way – now reap the benefits.
Greg Little CLE @ OAK | Pick-up and Play
AJ Green and Julio Jones have been beasts this year and it looks like the Browns are going to give their rookie a chance now. Greg Little is suppose to get the start coming off their bye week and with wideouts Fitz, Lloyd, Bowe, VJax, and even Nate Washington all out you might be looking for a guy in deeper leagues. Little would have been a first round pick if he did not have off the field troubles so if you are looking for a big time risk reward play – Little is your guy.
Anquan Boldin BAL vs. HOU | Sit’em
Boldin always has the big play potential but since coming to the Ravens Boldin and Flacco have not been on the same page. This week Boldin should be match-up with the best free agent corner pick-up in the off season. Nope Asomugha did not get traded I am talking about Jonathan Joseph, since being picked up by the Texans Joseph has been shutting down whoever he decides to face. Last week they put him on one of my favorite rookie sleeper Moore with the Raiders and he literally ensured he caught nothing. This week I expect him to completely take Boldin out of the game.

Alex Smith SF @ DET | Sit’em
Smith has been solid this year when it comes to a QB rating as he is only behind Rodgers and Tom Brady in that department. So you might ask why I would have him as a sit’em? Well he is 25th in total passing yards and I don’t expect him to gain too much ground this week. The Lions might be the best defense in the league as they can get to the quarterback like no other team. Their front seven is silly good and I expect the 49ers to take and control the clock with the run game to keep their offense off the field. With all this said I see Smith as a game manager this week and unless he find Davis up the middle I cannot see him having a great game.
Eli Manning NYG vs. BUF | Start’em
So Eli had some turnovers last week but overall from a fantasy perspective he had his third solid game in a row. Eli typically has bad games when he feels the pressure and does not have time to sit back in the pocket. Well this week he should have all the time in the world as the Bills are dead last with only 4 sacks on the year. Eli also has found his third target in Cruz so I expect the Giants to run the same type of offense as they did last year with a ton of three receiver with one of the wideouts always going for the deep ball. Call me crazy but I think this might be my upset special this week as well.
Ben Roethlisberger PIT vs. JAC| Pick-up and Play?
So I have Rivers on a bye this week in two of my leagues and when I started to go to the wire to find a replacement I noticed that Big Ben was sitting there. Come to find out Ben had been dropped in a bunch of leagues due to his recent sub-par play and his injury. Clearly this is a mistake as he proved by throwing five TD passes on Sunday all while hobbling down the field. Not only do you need to grab Ben for this week but for the rest of the season as well if he is available in your league. Based on a soft schedule he will end as a top ten QB, no question in my mind.
Greg Olsen CAR @ ATL | Pick-up and Play
Olsen has found the endzone two weeks in a row and I believe it is simply because of Cam Newtons ability to run. Both touchdowns came when the defense assumed Newton was going to run. Cam ducked his head for a split second bring the line backers to him and then found Olsen in the endzone. Last Sunday Night Finley could have had a monster game but dropped more than one pass as the Falcons linebackers were too concerned about Rodgers scrambling. Well Newton can run every bit as well as Rodgers so look out for Newton to duck his head, look up, and find Olsen in the endzone again this week.
Cincinnati DEF CIN vs. IND | Pick-up and Play
According to the numbers the number one ranked defense in yards allowed is none other than the Cincinnati Bengals. No I did not forget to change this from last week this is still the case and if you grabbed them last week they rewarded you with a solid game and a late touchdown. This week I am doubling down on the Bengals as I don’t see the Colts moving the ball too much with Addai out and the luck of the Painter Garcon connection will run out. Every week the defense selected here has scored a touchdown so here to hoping for six in a row!
