Start ‘em Sit ‘em is our weekly look at favorable and unfavorable match-ups and how they might affect lineup decisions for your fantasy football team. Other than a few elite players, no one should be classified as a must start every week, and analyzing match-ups can go a long way to giving your team a weekly edge. If you have any start’em sit’em questions feel free to post them in our Fantasy Football Forum.
Week 11 Byes
Texans, Colts, Saints, Steelers
Marshawn Lynch SEA @ STL | Start’em
Lynch has been in beast mode as of late and I see no reason why this will not continue against the worst rushing defense in the league. If you grabbed him off the wire (as he was dropped in a bunch of leagues at the start of the season) and held onto to him you are reaping the benefits. Lynch, based on touches alone is a nice volume play and with this match-up he is a must start.
James Starks GB vs. TB | Start’em
Starks is still splitting carries with Grant and has not produced a huge game due to the fact Rodgers just throws 45 touchdowns a game but if there was ever a week to start him it is this week. The Bucs lost McCoy for the season and it really hurt their run defense. I expect the Packers to get up big in this game and for once (not sure why as they never do this) turn to the run. Even if they don’t there is a good chance Starks has a chance to break a big one or find the endzone this week as almost anyone can vs the Bucs without McCoy. If you have bye week issues or injury issues Starks is a decent enough flex option.
Beanie Wells ARZ @ SF | Sit’em
Wells has finally shown his true colors. After starting the year off so great he has become himself again with knee issues and not showing up from time to time. Of course he is talented and can produce vs a good run defense (remember when you sat him due to the injury and the fact he played the Ravens) but I do not believe this week will be the same. The 49ers have not allowed a rushing touchdown this year…..I repeat they have not allowed a rushing touchdown this year. That is crazy and Wells will not be the first to do so against them.
AJ Green CIN @ BAL | Start’em
I don’t know how many forum questions we got about AJ Green last week if he should sit due to the match-up with the Steelers. I said he is a must start based on any match-up and even though he got hurt he still pulled through with a double digit fantasy day due to finding the endzone. Now, before starting him ensure everything in his hyper extended leg is fine (it looks pretty good right now) but if it is then feel free to move him right into your starting line-up. Green is simply a beast and the Dalton to Green connection just might give Cam a run for his money in the second half for what was at first thought to be a lock on the offensive rookie of the year.
Greg Little CLE vs. JAC | Pick-up and Play
He has gotten the targets but had yet to really produce before last week. The Browns do not take many shots down the field but when they do it is clear they are targeting Little. This week he has to be more in the game plan as the way to attack the Jags is thru the air. He is a good play in point per reception leagues and a hail mary in standard as this should be a low scoring game. I do believe he has a chance to find the endzone but the Browns have not had that many passing touchdowns so I am not too confident with that call.
Torrey Smith BAL vs. CIN | Pick-up and Play
I did not mean to put three rookies in this section but that allow me to digress for a second. The reason rookie wideouts are having more value this year is the rules, not that this crop is so much better than any in the past. With the NFL really shutting down the bump and run and throwing a flag for any big hit these rookies like all wideouts have the clear advantage. If you are talented, you can produce, and Smith is talented. He is the deep threat for the Ravens and with Washington (their top corner) out in Cincy will have a tougher time vs the pass. Losing Washington will make them have to roll the safety over the top of Boldin leaving Smith the ability to try to beat one or one coverage on the majority of plays.
Alex Smith SF vs. ARZ | Pick-up and Play
It is pretty amazing what Smith and the 49ers are doing this season. Sure they have a nice run game and a great defense but Smith is a viable start this week due to both. Teams have to be concerned about that running attack and that sets-up Smith to face single coverage on the outside. I know Arizona just shut down Vick in the passing game but I still don’t have too much faith in that secondary. I think the 49ers should come out the gate looking to attack in the air and I could see Smith having another productive day throwing to his tight ends and Crabtree, who has impressed me and could breakout this week. (even after a one catch game last week)
Sam Bradford STL vs. SEA | Pick-up and Play
Bradford is finally 100% healthy and has had great chemistry with Lloyd since he came over via trade to the Rams. This week they take on a Seahawks team that is solid against the run and not so solid against the pass so I expect the Bradford to Lloyd connection will be a huge part of the game plan. Furthermore, if you are an owner that lost Schaub for the year I like Bradford as a pick-up due to his schedule down the line. Over his next four games he has the Seahawks twice and the Cardinals once. Now, he is not a top ten guy by any means but could produce nice value for two quarterback or deeper leagues.
Ryan Fitzpatrick BUF @ MIA | Sit’em
Fitzpatrick has been railing as of late after coming out of the gate on fire. As he heads into playing the Fins on an amazing two game winning streak (the suck for Luck plans are not going so well) one would think the Bills have a chance to get back on track. Not so fast, the Fins are a sneaky good defense and with Fitzpatrick’s recent play he just scares me as the Bills should look to Fred Jackson, as they have all year, to carry them in this game.
Tony Gonzalez ATL vs. TEN | Start’em
Tony is simply the greatest Tight End in NFL history and a lock for a first ballet hall of fame but what he has done in the past is not what I am so happy about this week. Gonzo is a favorite target of Matt Ryan in the Red Zone as he already has six touchdowns and a ton of targets but this week it gets even better. The Titans are pretty bad against the Tight End (given up the 4th fantasy points to them) and the Falcons need a win after that overtime loss to the Saints. So I expect the greatest of all-time to add another touchdown to his amazing resume.
Jacksonville Jaguars JAC @ CLE | Pick-up and Play
This was a tough week to find a pick-up and play defense but if you have been playing the rotation game with me I like the Jags this week. Simply since the Browns offense is so terrible. Last week against an awful Rams defense they could not really move the ball and the Jags defense especially the front seven are certainly better than the Rams.
