ESPN Asks Athletes to Hype Up 2012 ESPYS on Twitter, Hilarity Ensues

| by Alex Groberman

In an effort to pump fans up about the 2012 ESPYS, ESPN’s PR person decided to make a fairly simple request of the attendees. Presumably via an e-mail or a private message of some sort, the Worldwide Leader’s ESPYS PR person sent out the following:

“[Insert name of athlete], can you please tweet this for the ESPY’s party for tonight: 'Chillin’ at the @ESPYS #NokiaPreParty. It’s Awesome'”

Again – it was a simple enough request. There is really no way to mess something this easy up. Right?

Unfortunately, with athletes, nothing is ever simple. Check out what Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson tweeted out (via Brian Floyd of SB Nation):

Floyd also did some additional investigative work and noticed more cases of ESPYS hype gone wrong. Case in point:

"Chillin' at the @ESPYS #NokiaPreParty. It's awesome."

Yup, they left the quotes in.
