New York Islanders Rick DiPietro is like most NHL players who are trying to keep themselves busy during the lockout. He’s apparently looking to go overseas and play in Germany. Actually, he’s already there according to Matias Strozyk, who writes about hockey for someone.
“Rick DiPietro to SC Riessensee of Germany’s 2nd league is now official. Already in Germany. Debuts on Sunday, just like D’Agostini. #Isles,” he tweets.
This 2nd-league German team is going to be very excited with DiPietro. He keeps everyone on his toes with this vast array of ways to get hurt and miss significant time. He’ll also underwhelm them when he does play.
And what DiPietro story is complete without this fun fact? He still has nine seasons left on a 15-year, $67.5 million contract. This deal could be worse than Barry Zito’s.
