Aroldis Chapman Will be Reds' Closer in 2013
Cincinnati Reds general manager Walt Jocketty and manager Dusty Baker have made it official: Fireballer Aroldis Chapman will be the team’s closer for the 2013 season and Mike Leake will be the fifth starter in their rotation.
“It’s decided: Leake in rotation, Chapman to be closer #reds,” tweets MLB.com‘s Mark Sheldon.
Some thought that Jocketty wanted to get Chapman into the rotation, but that would have meant that Jonathan Broxton would be the closer. And if you’ve watched any baseball at all the past couple of years, you know that you just can’t have that. He’s abysmal. Even having him as your eighth-inning guy (which he is) is scary.
As for Leake, he’s a poor fifth starter, and one just hopes he doesn’t get picked up for stealing again.
