Okay guys, for real this time.
When the UFC signed its landmark, seven-year broadcast deal with Fox networks this past August, it was announced that the promotion's standard gladiator lead-in sequence would be done away with, replaced by a more professional opening more befitting a mainstream sports product.
Though it's taken some time -- the gladiator readying himself for battle to the strains of aggressively bad rock music has preceded all but the UFC's recent forays onto the Fox networks channels -- UFC president Dana White revealed to the Underground today that the gladiator opening will officially go out the window this weekend with the airing of UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit on pay-per-view.
Aside from butt-rock enthusiasts and Russell Crowe fans, the opening may only be missed by model Gregory Howland (props to the UG), the mysterious man under the leather armor.
UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit goes down this Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Check back on the night for FightLine's live, ongoing coverage of the event. Also, watch the video below if you'd like a few last moments with Mr. Howland, the gladiator.
