Walel Watson Learned a Tough Lesson at UFC 140

| by

Walel Watson (9-4) has a new rule when he fights, don't aim for the decision win. He learned this lesson after losing in a split decision against Yves Jabouin (18-7) at UFC 140.

"It was a tough lesson to learn," said Watson on MMA Fighting. "I thought I had the fight won. I eased up in the last couple minutes. I thought I had the decision, so toward the end of the fight, I thought to myself 'don't do anything too crazy here.' It never even occurred to me I wouldn't get the decision. You know what they say about not leaving it in the hands of the judges? It's true. I learned it that night. From now on I don't want to give the judges any work to do."

Watson currently is on a two fight losing streak. He returns to action at UFC 152 against Mitch Gagnon (8-2). Heading into the fight, Watson believes fans will see a new fighter.

"You're never going to see that again," said Watson. "You're never going to see someone hold me down for three rounds like that again. I've been drilling my wrestling nonstop. I wasn't me that night. That Walel Watson is gone."
