Vitor Belfort Says Jon Jones "Preaches a Good Message"

| by

Former UFC champion Vitor Belfort was part of the original UFC, when the sport was still attempting to break into the realm of mainstream sports. Now, as he prepares to main event another pay-per-view, "The Phenom" is proud to call himself a fighter.

Belfort will face Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight title Saturday night at UFC 152: Jones vs. Belfort. The card takes place from Toronto.

"I fought a lot of (my career) when people criticized us, saying we were never going to succeed," Belfort said. "To see the sport growing, to have Jon Jones as a champion, a guy who preaches a good message, this is our living. The most important thing is to leave a legacy in this sport so everyone can respect what we do."

Belfort has a fine resume to look back upon, but he feels as though what he accomplishes right now is far more important.

"In life, we all have goals, dreams to fulfill," Belfort said. "I learned something that is really important in life. To accomplish things when you are young, in the past, (to) make history (is nice), but the most important thing is living right now, in the present, the moment."
