UFC on FUEL TV 6 Round-by-Round Review: Tiequan Zhang vs. Jon Tuck

| by

China's own Tiequan Zhang (15-3) is up next, as he welcomes Jon Tuck (6-0) to the UFC at lightweight. The referee in charge is Marc Goddard.

Round 1: Big knee by Tuck, as Zhang goes for a crazy takedown and gets it, winding up in side control. Tuck with a quick armbar attempt, but Zhang now in control. Tuck, however, rolls an overly-aggressive Zhang over and into an armbar, the two roll and Zhang survives the armbar. Zhang tries for an inverted triangle but that allows Tuck to take his back. Some very smooth ground work by both fighters early on. Tuck in side control, takes the back again and throws a rear-naked attempt around the neck of Zhang. Both hooks in for Tuck, but he fails in getting the elbow under the chin of Zhang. Tuck working to loosen him up with punches to the face as we go under a minute in the round.

Round 2: Tuck with a head kick that connects right off the bat. Quick right lands, as well, from Tuck, who is looking excellent. Now Zhang fires back, and Tuck is willing to engage, as the two trade blows. Zhang gets the takedown as Tuck pulls guard. Tuck misses on an armbar attempt, grabs an ankle and is now in side control. Tuck appears to be looking for a kimura, and Zhang is able to break free from that attempt. Back to the kimura Tuck goes as we go under two minutes in the round. Trying to avoid the kimura, Zhang gives up his back and Tuck figure-fours his legs around the body of Zhang.

Round 3: Zhang comes out throwing heavy hands, firing off lets and rights, but also eating lefts and rights at the same time. Looks like Zhang's nose is busted open. A left by Zhang wobbles Tuck for a brief second, as Tuck is breathing heavily now. Tuck answers with a right and it seems these two are content with standing and trading in this final round. A minute to go and Zhang appears the fresher fighter, but needs a finish to earn the win after being controlled through the first two rounds. Sharp left lands by Zhang, who misses with a swooping left.
