UFC on FUEL TV 6 Round-by-Round Review: Takeya Mizugaki vs. Jeff Hougland

Welcome to the first-ever UFC event in China. We open the Fuel TV main card with bantamweights Takeya Mizugaki (15-7-2) and Jeff Hougland (10-5) squaring off. The third man inside the Octagon will be Steve Perceval.

Round 1: Mizugaki catches an early eye poke, but the ref doesn't see it and action continues. Hougland looking much quicker here in the early stages of the fight. Quick right lands by Hougland. Mizugaki fires back with a left and a right, as Hougland drops for a takedown, pressuring Mizugaki up against the fence before pulling guard. Armbar attempt by Hougland, but Mizugaki fires a pair of huge rights to the face. Hougland leaving himself open on his back as he attempts another submission. Mizugaki's strikes force Hougland to abandon submission game, but Mizugaki keeps him on his back and continues to punish Hougland's face. Another unsuccessful submission attempt from Hougland, who has remained very active from his back but has taken the brunt of the damage in this round.

Round 2: Mizugaki lands with a huge body shot. Hougland slides in and Mizugaki ties him up and connects with a knee to the body. Hougland attempting another takedown, but is stuffed and it is Mizugaki who uses a bodylock to take Hougland to his back without much resistance. Hougland going for another armbar, but Mizugaki fights out of it once again. Mizugaki slides to the back of Hougland and winds up back in his guard again as we go under two minutes. More lefts and rights by Mizugaki connect. Back to their feet and Mizugaki lands a big strike that forces Hougland to attempt a single-leg and wind up back on his back and in guard again.

Round 3: Spinning attempt by Hougland to start the round, as Mizugaki lands a big shot that rocks Hougland, who is able to recover and score a takedown. However, it's Mizugaki who winds up on top - and much like the first 10 minutes, we are back to Mizugaki in Hougland's guard. Back standing and Mizugaki connects with a nice uppercut and gets the trip-takedown. The ref stands them up and Hougland is denied another takedown attempt. This has been all Mizugaki so far with 90 seconds to go. Blood pouring from the face of Hougland after several blows by Mizugaki connect inside the guard. It was a sharp left elbow that busted Hougland's face up.
