UFC on FUEL TV 6 Round-by-Round Review: Dong Hyun Kim vs. Paulo Thiago

| by

An interesting welterweight contest hits the Octagon next, as Dong Hyun Kim (15-2-1) and Paulo Thiago (14-4) square off. Both hold notable victories in the division, but each fighter is coming off a loss, as well. So far, we've had six fights and six decisions, but this could be the fight to end that streak. The referee will be Marc Goddard.

Round 1: Kim goes right for a single-leg takedown, but Thiago fights it off. Kim back to the clinch and uses a trip-takedown to put Thiago on his back. Kim going for a submission as he's on the back of Thiago in complete control. Kim still mounted on the back of Thiago as we reach the two-minute mark in the round. Thiago controlling the wrist, but Kim gets his arm free and is looking for a head-and-arm choke. Kim continues to lock up the body of Thiago with his legs and pepper him with punches. Kim, again, going for a choke but is working a neck crank instead as the round comes to an end.

Round 2: Kim working hard for a takedown, but gets caught in a kimura by Thiago. Kim trying to work out, but Thiago holding strong on his right arm. Kim pushes Thiago up against the fence, forcing Thiago to release the hold. Kim taking advantage of his long arms and legs, locking his body around Thiago's. Kim slips and that allows Thiago to reverse, winding up on the back of Kim for a brief second. Both fighters are to their feet, as Kim uses an inside trip to take Thiago back to the mat. Kim with a D'arce choke as the round comes to an end.

Round 3: Thiago knows he is down on the scorecards after 10 minutes, and will need a finish. However, he appears exhausted, while Kim looks as fresh as he was at the start of the fight. Kim goes for a single-leg, takes the back instead and starts breaking Thiago down. Kim putting his hooks in, getting them and going for a rear-naked choke it would appear. This has been a completely-controlling performance from Kim as we go under two minutes in the fight. Kim throwing huge rights to the face of Thiago. More punishment handed down by Kim, as Thiago is defenseless. Double hammerfists from Kim to Thiago and the round comes to an end.
