UFC on FOX 3: Mike Massenzio vs. Karlos Vemola Round-by-Round Recap and Analysis

Last night's fight card kicked off by middleweights Mike Massenzio and Karlos Vemola. Once a heavyweight, Vemola made his debut at 185lbs against Massenzio.

Round 1: They touch gloves and Vemola circles the outside. Vemola gets in the first shot with a left hand. Massenzio shoots for the takedown and looks to have it, but Vemola squirms away. Vemola avoids another takedown and his holding onto a front choke. They break apart. Vemola with a hard leg kick. Massenzio stings Vemola with a series of punches. They clinch up and Massenzio goes for the takedown.

Vemola threatens the guillotine, but Massenzio defends and goes to work from half guard. Massenzio's aggressiveness looks to be wearing Vemola down. Massenzio with a pair of hard lefts, an uppercut followed by a straight. Another straight left. Vemola is weary. Massenzio gets Vemola down and winds up in side control against the fence. Vemola explodes from a north-south choke to his feet. Vemola plods after Massenzio and hits a big takedown before the bell.

Round 2: Vemola's right eye showing damage. Massenzio gets in a nice combination that Vemola answers with a hard looping right. Vemola charges after Massenzio behind another right and they wind up on the ground. Massenzio threatens the guillotine, but Vemola avoids and goes to work from top position. After threatening with a choke himself, Vemola pounds on Massenzio with a series of pounding left hands. Amidst the barrage, Vemola sinks in a rear naked choke with no hooks in and forces the tap.
