UFC 155 Round-by-Round Review: Brad Pickett vs. Eddie Wineland

| by

We've reached the prelim main fight, as bantamweights Brad Pickett (22-6) and Eddie Wineland (19-8-1) do battle. The referee will be Yves Lavigne.

Round 1: These two are both high-energy, high-action fighters so this should be exciting. Hope I didn't jinx it:) Pickett with a slick right that connects and dips in with a combo. Body shot by Pickett and Wineland throws one of his own. Big right by Wineland follows, as does another body shot. Looks as though Pickett has a cut on his forehead, above the left eye. Wineland drops Pickett with an uppercut, but the Brit bounces back to his feet and fires back. Incredible exchange of strikes going on here. Too much to even report back on, as these two throw combos like nothing. Another huge uppercut attempt just misses by Wineland. Wineland drops Pickett twice more with rights, as Pickett drops to one knee both times and gets back up. Pickett firing back with heavy shots, but missing. Pickett shoots for a takedown, Wineland sprawls and nothing advances. Solid left hook by Pickett. Pickett lands a huge right but Wineland stays standing, thanks to the fence, as the round closes.

Round 2: Pickett with a big right/left, but Wineland avoids the brunt of the damage to start the round. Uppercut lands by Wineland. Right from Wineland connects, and a counter-right by Wineland off a kick attempt. Wineland is countering everything that Pickett throws, which could lead to trouble for "One Punch." Nice exchange of strikes by the two, as they have slowed down a bit from the first. We go under 30 seconds, and Pickett lands while Wineland misses wildly.

Round 3: Left lands by Pickett, as he likely feels he is behind on the scorecards and needs a finish to earn the win. Knee to the body connects from Pickett, but Wineland answers with a quick right of his own. Glancing blow by Wineland, who eats a right from Pickett. Swooping right from Wineland, who counters Pickett again and lands a right. Straight right from Wineland, as both fighters have bruised and bloody faces with a minute to go. Pickett's corner telling him he has to go, but Wineland isn't allowing him to get close.
