UFC 152 Round-by-Round Review: Jon Jones vs. Vitor Belfort

It's time for the main event, as Jon Jones (16-1) attempts to defend his UFC light heavyweight title for a fourth time against former UFC champion Vitor Belfort (21-9). John McCarthy will serve as the referee. Jones entered the Octagon very relaxed, smiling and enjoying his walk to fight Belfort.

Round 1: Belfort throws kick at Jones as he crawls towards him. Jones with a kick to the lead leg of Belfort. Jones shoots in, as a single-leg and gets the takedown. Belfort attempting to lock Jones up. Jones lifting Belfort up, and slams him to the ground. Belfort grabs an armbar, and has it locked in. Jones is trying to power out and slam Belfort who locks it in tight. Jones, though, is able to pull his arm out and go back to the mount.

The arm looked at least hyper-extended, and the crowd is now loudly behind Belfort. Blood over the face of Belfort, as it appears an elbow cut Belfort over the eye lid. Belfort again turns for an armbar, but is unable to get it locked in this time. More elbows by Jones, who postures up and lands a big left. Plenty of blood covering the face of Belfort now. Right and left elbows continue to cut up and bloody the face of Belfort. A minute to go in the opening round. Huge left elbow to the face of Belfort.

This judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:

Round 2: Big kick by Belfort misses, but he lands a body blow. Jones cutting Belfort off, as Jones lands a pair of front-leg-side kicks. Spinning back elbow attempt by Jones misses, as Belfort lands a head kick. Another kick to the lead leg by Jones, who hasn't thrown his right at all, as it might be injured from the armbar attempt in the first by Belfort. More kicks to the lead leg by Jones, taking power away from Belfort. Two straight to the lead leg/knee area. Big right and left miss by Jones. Two minutes to go in the round. Front kick misses by Jones, but kick to thigh does not. Jones with a big combo. Belfort pulls guard on Jones with just over a minute to go. Belfort looking for the armbar again, looking for the right opportunity to try and lock it in. Belfort avoiding taking a lot of damage.

Round 3: Jones quickly cuts the cage off again, and lands a big head kick and thigh kick. Jones definitely seemed interested in ending this via a kick. Kick to body hurt Belfort, who dropped to the ground. Jones drops down and lands a big elbow to the eye area again. Belfort looking for the armbar. Three minutes to go in the third round. Belfort blocks spinning kick, but Jones goes right back to attacking the thigh. Right by Jones connects, as blood starts to pour from Belfort's face. Belfort pulls guard again, as Jones starts landing elbows to the face. Jones right in the corner of Greg Jackson, doing exactly what he instructs him to do. Round 4: Head-kick attempt by Belfort is followed by a series of strikes. Belfort pulls guard once again, but Jones lands on top and has his arms secured. Jones goes for a kimura and Belfort quickly taps.
