Is There a Title Shot in Ben Rothwell's Future?

| by

With four UFC fights to his name, Ben Rothwell (32-8) thinks that if he can put together a few more wins a heavyweight championship shot could be coming his way. He most recently is coming off a win from Brendan Schaub (8-3).

"With two more victories, besides Schaub, I think it'll be close to the belt," said Rothwell to TATAME. "I know that all the Brazilians who are into that arena will cheer for me because I know how I fight."

Since Rothwell joined the UFC rankings at the end of 2009 he has fought only four times and is 2-2. His first loss was against former heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez (10-1). In his last fight with Schaub, Rothwell took home Knockout of the Night honors with his first round KO.

Rothwell returns to action at UFC on FX 7 as he takes on Gabriel Gonzaga (13-6), who unsuccessfully challenged for the heavyweight title in 2007.

"I fight anyone in the UFC," said Rothwell. "All are tough; each one is a new challenge."

The two are expected to meet on January 19 in the co-main event.
