Shark Fights 18: Nelson vs. Wetherspoon Preview

| by

Coming off their successful 17th event last month, Shark Fights returns this Friday from the John Ascuaga’s Nugget Casino in Reno, Nevada. Shark Fights 18 will be headlined by a lightweight bout between Shane Nelson and Aaron Wetherspoon. While the last Shark Fights card was televised live on HDNet, Friday’s event will air on Fuel TV at a later date as part of their “Friday Fight Night” series.

Shane Nelson (13-5) is coming off a second round submission victory over Jai Bradney in March after a long 15 month layoff. The UFC veteran and fighter on the eighth season of the Ultimate Fighter will be taking on the former King of the Cage champion, Aaron Wetherspoon (8-3) who is coming off a unanimous decision win against Nick Reale. Wetherspoon came into that bout off a two-year layoff, so now that the two have knocked off the ring rust these two are ready to go at it in the night’s main event.

In the night’s co-main event, hard-hitting Emanuel Newton (15-6-1) will be taking on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt Ricky Shivers (10-5-1). Both fighters are coming into their bout on a three fight winning streak and only one will leave with a fourth win in a row.

The complete Shark Fights 18 card will feature a five bout main card and a four bout undercard for nine fights in all. If you plan on attending the event, doors will open at 6pm PT and the first bout is scheduled to begin at 7pm PT. If you cannot attend then make sure to check back here as MMAValor will be in the house doing live play-by-play for the entire card.
