Heading into UFC 157, a lot of people complained about Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida not being the card’s main event. They argued that two former male world champions deserved five rounds to showcase their brilliance, not a couple of chicks who had never previously done battle in the octagon.
Coming out of UFC 157, those people felt really, really dumb. Whereas Henderson and Machida put on a staggeringly mundane display consisting mostly of swinging at air and running away from potentially heavy hits, Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche brawled from the jump. The women put on the best or second-best performance of the entire main card; Machida and and Henderson put everyone to sleep.
