Pat Healy Wants to Beat Gilbert Melendez, Win the Strikeforce Lightweight Title

| by

Pat Healy has been competing in MMA since 2001. Next month, "Bam Bam" will get his chance to make a statement when he takes on Gilbert Melendez for the Strikeforce lightweight title.

The fight will be the main event of Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Healy on Showtime. Healty was in attendance as Saturday night's Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman event, and discussed his upcoming match with "El Nino."

"This means everything to me," Healy said. "Everything I've been working for in my whole career. I have an opportunity and it's motivated me."

Healy has won five consecutive fights to improve to 28-16 in his career. He has earned two submissions and three decisions in that stretch, with his last loss coming to former title contender Josh Thomson in 2010.

"(Melendez) is going to find out real quick that I'm not just a tough guy; he's not better than me everywhere," Healy said. "I want to prove that I'm one of the best lightweights in the world and show I can hang with anybody."
