Former UFC title contender Kenny Florian faces a very uncertain future after suffering a back injury. "Ken-Flo" recently disclosed on the UFC 142 FUEL TV post-fight show that he has decided against going under the knife and will hope the injury heals on its own.
"First of all, I've had a back injury for a little bit and after the (Jose) Aldo fight I was getting back to training. I was doing some Olympic lifting, hurt my back, of course on the last rep, last set, and I knew it was bad," Florian said (thanks to MMAWeekly.com for transcribing). "It was a herniated disc in my back and it's just been causing a lot of problems. I'm hoping it's going to heal up and I can get back to the fight game, but we'll see what happens. I'm not going to do surgery."
Florian lost his last fight, falling to UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo by decision. Florian admitted that he recently contemplated retirement due to the pain affecting him with the injury to his back. He will remain part of the UFC broadcast team for the immediate future.
