MMA News: Jake Ellenberger vs. Carlos Condit on the Agenda?

| by

Jake Ellenberger will enter into tomorrow night's welterweight contest with Diego Sanchez on the strength of a five-fight winning streak punctuated by a first round knockout over Jake Shields; a win over Sanchez could propel him into an interim title shot and desired rematch against Carlos Condit.

Ellenberger knows this, but he also knows that spending much time looking past Sanchez would be a fool's error.

"The Jake Shields fight was a great win, but you need to look at it one fight at a time. Sanchez is a completely different type of fight for me," said Ellenberger. "I've really put in the work, I have been around the sport a long time and the hard work and traveling the hard road is really paying off. This is a big opportunity for me. I'm looking one fight at a time until I get the title shot. I'm not thinking much past Wednesday, but my goal has always been a world title."

Still, Ellenberger would like to avenge the close loss he suffered to Condit back in 2009, as he's a fighter whom Ellenberger respects.

"I was very excited by last week's Nick Diaz vs. Carlos Condit fight. Obviously I have history with Carlos and I would love to get this win back off him," he said. "The last one was a split decision and I know I am a little faster and a lot smarter than I was two years ago. I respect him because he didn't have an easy path to the belt, like me, and to fight him again would be an honor."

Ellenberger and Sanchez meet tomorrow night at the Omaha Civic Auditorium in Omaha, Nebraska. FightLine will be back on the night with our live, ongoing coverage of the event.
