MMA News: Erick Silva vs. Carlo Prater Decision Stands

| by

Many felt like Erick Silva was wrongly disqualified for illegal strikes to the back of the head at UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes in his bout with Carlo Prater. The UFC even paid Silva his win bonus after the decision was made. Yet, UFC vice president of regulatory affairs, Marc Ratner, has decided to stand by the call.

"Based on the referee's verbal warnings and his determination that the blows were intentional and a disqualifying foul, this is not the type of decision that can be reviewed. Therefore, the decision stands," Ratner said in a statement released Thursday.

Ratner was in charge of overseeing the event because it was at an international location - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - and there was no sanctioning body. He added that Zuffa has decided to implement the use of instant replay at all such events, and hopes everyone will use it when needed.
