Michael Bisping: "The Best Fighter Doesn't Always Win..."

| by

Michael Bisping will take on Chael Sonnen - perhaps the only man more widely despised by MMA fans than himself - this weekend in a bout that will determine the number one contender to the UFC middleweight throne.

The fight came together at the last minute when Mark Muñoz was injured and forced out of a scheduled bout against Sonnen, but the air of excitement around the event has increased significantly since the new match-up was announced. Whether the crowd is cheering or booing on fight night, Bisping expects the atmosphere to be electric and the fight to reflect that.

"I think it's gonna be fantastic. Chael's a great fighter, I'm a great fighter; we're gonna put on an awesome show for you people and I'm sure there's gonna be a lot of energy," the Brit predicted. "Whether it's negative or positive, that doesn't really matter. I feed off the energy and there will be a lot of it."

Bisping is going up against the odds this weekend by facing Sonnen, the division's number two and self-proclaimed champion, but he isn't letting any lopsided numbers fill his head with doubts.

"This wouldn't be the first time I've been the underdog in a fight and it wouldn't be the first time that I win and prove the oddsmakers wrong. Odds aren't important," Bisping said. "What's important is who turns up on the night. The best fighter doesn't always win, the guy who fights best wins and I'm gonna fight the best.

"And he can keep his fake belt and shove it up his a**.

Bisping and Sonnen square off this Saturday at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois for the co-main event of UFC on Fox 2: Evans vs. Davis. Return to FightLine on the night to check out our live, ongoing coverage of the event.
