Matt Hughes (45-9) looks at a potential fight between Anderson Silva (33-4) and Georges St-Pierre (22-2) with an idea that the winner goes home with two championships. He also suggested who that winner would be.
"I really believe if GSP and Silva fight, Georges will have his hand raised," said Hughes on BJPenn.com. "GSP transitions so well from striking to wrestling that he will be on Silva's legs before Anderson even knows what's going on. I believe Georges is that quick and I don't think Silva will be able to do a whole lot with Georges on top of him."
Hughes believes that Silva's weight advantage means he would likely gas out too soon.
If someone knows about how to prepare for St-Pierre, Hughes might be that person. He is responsible for handing St-Pierre is first of only two losses. They originally met at UFC 50 in 2004, where Hughes earned a first round submission to keep his welterweight title. St-Pierre would win the rematch over two years later and the title in the process.
Popular VideoThis judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:
"I have a lot of respect for Georges having lost to him twice," said Hughes.
The possible Silva-St-Pierre bout at this time is just talk. Currently, St-Pierre is set to defend his title over the weekend and Silva has hinted at a late 2013 return. Hughes thinks that if the men meet then it should be for one of their titles.
"If I was Georges I would tell the UFC if they want to make this fight between the two of them they should contest it at 185pounds and Silva should put his title on the line," said Hughes. "If Georges is going to fight Silva he might as well add the additional weight and try and get a belt out of the deal."
