Until Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. agree to finally meet in the ring, we will continue to have to judge them on other things.
In the days following Pacquiao’s controversial victory over Juan Manuel Marquez, we compared how dominant he looked in his win to how dominant Mayweather looked versus Victor Ortiz.
Then, when some of the most respected boxing minds came out and demoted Pacquiao in the pound-for-pound rankings, we measured the validity of that demotion and whether Mayweather was really the new pound-for-pound king.
And, of course, when the numbers came out for Mayweather versus Ortiz, we compared them to the numbers Pacquiao versus Shane Mosley had pulled prior to that.

Now we have a new measuring stick for the never-ending Mayweather versus Pacquiao rivalry: how many pay-per-view buys they generated for their respective fights in September and November of this year.
As reported by BoxingScene.com, when asked about how Pacquiao’s last fight did during a recent interview, here was Todd DuBoef’s reply:
"I don't have the exact number, but I can tell you that it's the best pay-per-view that Manny has had in his history. We are talking about [a number] that exceeds 1.3 million homes. We are hoping for it to be 1.4 million homes. Obviously [the fight] was greatly influenced by Juan Manuel Marquez because we understand that Latinos have a strong base in the United States and they buy the fights.”
Regardless of whether it ultimately ends up being 1.3 or 1.4 million, either number trumps the 1.25 million that Mayweather brought in. Not by a sizable margin, obviously – but definitely by enough to proclaim Pacquiao’s fans more dedicated to watching their guy than Mayweather’s fans are theirs.
